Analytics for the New Millennium with @AppDynamics | @DevOpsSummit [#DevOps]

AppDynamics: Application Analytics for the New Millennium What’s old is new again. That maxim is no truer than in the white hot Application Performance Management (APM) market. A decade ago APM was a dusty corner of enterprise IT, focusing on keeping creaky enterprise apps up and running. Today, the world has changed. Applications have changed. Enterprise IT is undergoing rapid reinvention. As a result, APM is now at the crux of the digital transformation trend. And squarely in the center of this firestorm is San Francisco-based AppDynamics. Ask any teenager about applications and they’ll look at you funny and say, “you mean, apps?” and hold up their smartphone. Today, mobile apps lead the reinvention of the application, filtering down from the consumer space into all corners of the enterprise. The democratization of IT has upended the notion of an enterprise applic... (more)

Monitoring the SAN shine with Virtual Instruments

It was about three months ago that one of my friends had informed me he was leaving HDS to join a company named Virtual Instruments. ‘Virtual Instruments?’ I asked myself, trying to fathom if I’d have heard of them before only to realize that I had once seen a write up on their SAN monitoring solution, which was then termed NetWisdom. I was then inadvertently asked to mention Virtual Instruments in one of my blogs - nice try pal but I had made it clear several times before to vendors requesting the same that I didn’t want my blog to become an advertising platform. Despite this though I was still intrigued by what could have persuaded someone to leave a genuinely stable position at HDS to a company I hadn’t really had much exposure to myself. Fast forward a few months, several whitepapers and numerous discussions and I find myself writing a blog about the very sai... (more)

Hot Tech Firms at the 2012 DoDIIS Conference

The Exhibitor List for the 2012 DoDIIS Worldwide Conference is up at http://www.ncsi.com/dodiis12/exhibitor_list.html Many of the firms there are technology firms, which is why this is one of the great events of the year. The text below is based on the current exhibitor list.  This event is getting HUGE which makes it very hard to spend more than about a second with all the vendors. Everyone seeks ways to focus on the vendors that are most relevant and have the most disruptive technologies. I am frequently asked for suggestions on which firms to visit and am working on my personal list of recommendations.  But we are also preparing a survey so we can solicit your views and will be rolling that out in a day or so. The survey will ask you to nominate what you believe to be the most significant technologies, the ones that people absolutely “must see” at the event. We ... (more)
